A web browser or in short a browser is an application that makes the content on the internet viewable. It converts the data of the internet in the graphical interface that you see on a website and displays all elements of a website at their designated positions.

Today 80% of the internet user use Microsofts Internet Explorer to surf the web. Followed by the increasingly popular browser Firefox that has become more and more popular during the last year because it offers many more features and flexibility than the Internet Explorer. As soon as you are a bit more familiar with the interent I recommend to give Firefox a try.

The most important part of your browser is the address bar. You can enter all domain names you want to visit in it. You do not have to add "http://" to every address you enter.

	Back Button: This takes you to the website you visited before
	Forward Button: This takes you to the next website if you have used the Back Button
	Cancel Button: Stops your browser from loading the current website
	Refresh Button: Reloads the website you are currently looking at
	Home Button: Brings you back to the startsite that is opened when you open your browser
	Search Button: Opens a window to search the internet with Microsofts MSN search engine
	Favourites Button: Opens a window with your favourite bookmarks.

You can bookmark a website if you think it is very interesting and you want to visit it more often. Just go to the menu item "Favorites" in the top menu of your browser and select "Add to favorites". If you now click on your Favorites Button you will see that the website you are currently viewing was added. If you click on it your browser takes you to this website.

How to find the browser settings in Internet Explorer

Most browser settings can be found in the "Tools" menu of your Internet Explorer under "Internet Options". If you want to change the appearance of the websites your browser displays the "View" menu might be interesting as well.

Change your start page in Internet Explorer

1. Go to the "Tools" menu of your browser and click "Internet Options".
2. Type or paste your selection, in the "Home Page" area.
3. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the box.
